[2008-08-22] Gaborone based RPC Data Ltd has restructured the operations of two subsidiary companies.
ASC Services (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of RPC handling computer support services, has taken over the business operations of Advancenet (Pty) Ltd, another subsidiary previously responsible for the computer and peripherals sales business. The new merged company called ASC/Advancenet (Pty) Ltd will be able to operate more efficiently and to eliminate significant overheads.

Advancenet was a three way partnership that included Advancenet South Africa and the Realtime Technology Africa Alliance (RTAA). ASCS was a partnership with RTAA only. Under the new structure RPC has procured a controlling interest in both companies, and has taken over the management contract, previously held by RTAA. As a result both subsidiary and parent companies will be able to share resources and information more freely to the benfit of their clients, and will be able to save administration costs to the benfit of the shareholders.
RTAA is a large and diverse information technology group with interests in Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. Advancenet is a broad based IT services organisation from Johannesburg with specialisations in mid-market CRM and ERP system delivery. RPC, Advancenet and Realtime will continue to take advantage of collaboration opportunities in the future.
For RPC customers the new structure is expected to provide considerable extra simplicity and accountability. Bryan MacKenzie, Assistant General Manager of the RPC Data Group, says “Many of our clients have asked us for a one stop shop. They do not want to spend their valuable time and resources ensuring that all systems are compatible, or reconciling accounts from many separate vendors. Under the new structure one RPC account manager can be asked to provide solutions that might include computers, networks, operating system and network management support, email, firewalls, databases, accounting, HR and bespoke software applications. If anything goes wrong, the client doesn’t want to know which part of the IT infrastructure is at fault, he (or she) just wants to call one number, and have the problem fixed.”
For years RPC Data has attempted to specialise to provide the high level of expert skills required in its core business of information technology consulting services and database solution development. The management and directors have now decided to take advantage of changes in the market, and have taken this new approach to remain at the cutting edge of information technology services provision in Botswana.
