[2007-07-04] Egypt to open up fixed-line market
Egypt is opening up its fixed-line market to competition with plans to issue a second landline licence in 2008. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has set the terms and conditions for the second landline licence, according to an announcement from the minister of communications and IT. A tender will open in 2008, wiht services expected to start in 2009. The country recently opened up its mobile market further, licencing a third network operator. The new fixed market entrant will compete with incumbent Telecom Egypt.
