[2008-06-03] AccessKenya goes to Kisumu and Eldoret AccessKenya, the country’s largest corporate Internet Service Provider (ISP), is expanding to major towns in the country.
The firm has announced that its services are now available in Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru and promised faster Internet connections to corporates.
The company moved recently to increase its international bandwidth to over 300MB, extending its lead as Kenya’s largest buyer of bandwidth.
The group’s latest bandwidth expansion comes ahead of the launch of broadband residential Internet services through its Access@Home brand.
AccessKenya group managing director Jonathan Somen said the expansion was part of a strategy to make services available in Kenya’s major towns, while increasing bandwidth supply.
“Clearly, any provider that expands its network coverage and customer base without upgrading bandwidth can only be laying the foundations of customer dissatisfaction,” Mr. Somen said.
Across all bandwidth buyers, including the government, AccessKenya buys more than a quarter of all the bandwidth used in Kenya.
The company’s market share is estimated at 40 per cent.
Mr. Somen said service in major towns will extend the availability of AccessKenya’s market leading broadband, Max 2 quadruple downlink solution, to new corporate customers in the towns.
Internet service buyers are often frustrated by entering into a shared line that provides only a fraction of the bandwidth paid for.
The internet service provider says it is secured against bandwidth disruptions, with more redundant uplinks and downlinks than its competitors, many of whom, it claims, have only one connection.
The redundant links cushion against disruptions on existing links, ensuring smooth Internet access at all times.
