[2008-08-05]  Equity ranked top Bank
Equity Bank has been ranked the best bank in the country in a new survey released by the Banking Survey of Kenya.
Equity- currently Kenya's leading bank in terms of customer base and market capitalization- topped the Bank Survey Kenya 2008 as the best bank benchmarked against a series of 12 parameters, chief of which included asset quality, capital adequacy, earnings, and liquidity.
The indicators are the standard measures used internationally by rating agencies to grade banks.
The ratings included 41 commercial banks and two non-bank-financial institutions.
Equity bank was the clear leader in the category of banks utilizing their asset much better to generate growth, which is reflected in the overall profitability of the bank.
Equity bank scored 83 points in this year's banking survey in the Tier 1 category, followed by Citibank's 86 and Standard Chartered's 91 points respectively
