[2008-07-15]  Barclays extends opening hours
Barclays Bank has joined the bandwagon of financial institutions that are luring clients by extending their opening hours with an additional hour everyday.

Effective Monday, the bank became the fourth to use such bait to attract customers as competition forces them to rethink customer retention and attraction strategies.

The branches rolled out under the bank’s retail expansion programme will open at 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12pm on Saturday.

Previously they opened up to 3pm on weekdays and up to 11am on Saturdays. The branches include those in Nairobi, Bomet, Busia, and Mumias. The mall-based Prestige Centres will open 8.30 am to 8.30 pm on weekdays.

Suit customers

Diamond Trust Bank was the first local bank to introduce extended banking hours. Standard Chartered then followed with an additional hour to their Ukay branch, which now closes at nine in the night. NIC Bank also has two branches that close at seven in the evening. Equity Bank opens at 9am and closes at 4pm.

‘We are adjusting our opening hours to better suit the needs of our customers’’, said Barclays Bank consumer banking director Kariuki Ngari.
