[2008-09-04] KenGen enjoins KPLC in tariffs row The country’s two main electricity utilities are locked in a dispute whose outcome could have a major impact on prices at homes and industries.
If the row goes KenGen’s way, tariffs will be expected to rise further as consumers groan under the weight of unmanageable bills brought home by a growing contribution of expensive thermal sources to the national grid.
If the Energy Tribunal rules in favour of power distributor KPLC, long term benefits are expected through more efficient power plants, but in the short term, financing for new projects by KenGen — the electricity generator — will be constrained.
