[2008-05-29] Sameer’s KSh2.2bn business park on course Sameer Africa Limited (SAL) and Sameer Telekom has commissioned the erection of a KSh2.2 billion business park that will offer showroom and office space services. The new business park will be completed within 18 months. It will be located on SAL’s land along Mombasa Road, where it will occupy a tenth of the 100 acres of land owned by Sameer. Sameer Africa managing director Eric Kimani said the business park will create a new avenue of profits for Sameer Group. “We are confident that the new business park will give a profit boost for Sameer Group,” said Mr. Kimani. “In 10 years we are certain that the business park will surpass SAL profit.” Presently, the group relies on sale of its tyres, and imported ones, in a market besieged by cheap tyres and a growing retread market. The concept of the business park, borrowed from Dubai, will cover 50,000 square metres with 30 showrooms and office space. The business park will also have a capacity to accommodate 300 vehicles in the basement and another 225 in a parking lot at the building. The new business park will have five buildings with the main one having six floors. The main building will also have a helicopter pad. In 2006, SAL entered into a business venture with Dunlop, a South African based tyre manufacturing company, and Hakook tyre manufacturer of Korea, to import tyres.
