[2007-06-11] Germany offers Tanzania USD 65.7mn as budget support Germany has offered Tanzania KSH82.19bn (USD65.752mn) as governmental supports for the east African country's 2007/2008 budget. The amount was revealed while German Ambassador to Tanzania Wolfgang Ringe signed on Friday a technical and financial agreement with Tanzanian Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary, Gray Mgonja. The government of Germany has pledged to help cushion Tanzania’s budget for up to 2009. The German ambassador urged the government of Tanzania to double its efforts on poverty reduction. "Tanzania needs to re-double its efforts and continue thinking critically about what can be done to improve the lives of the people," said the ambassador after signing the agreement. Germany is among 14 development partners that have collectively committed USD714.6mn dollars as budget support for the 2007/2008 fiscal year of Tanzania that starts on July 1. The commitment is USD54.6mn more than the original pledge made during the General Budget Support review held in October last year. Source: All Africa
