[2007-11-28] Dar Bourse Share Index Rises By 1.9
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) share index rose to 1023.15 at the end of the last week's session from 1021.24 the previous week.
The bourse's market capitalisation grew to Sh3,156.28 billion from Sh3,150.38 billion during the same period.
The market's turnover increased last week. Twiga's turnover improved, but most companies traded poorly.
Twiga accounted for 88.52 per cent of the total DSE turnover last week.
The Citizen weekly review shows that JHL, KA and EABL were inactive last week while TCC, TOL, TBL, Simba, Swissport and Tatepa traded marginally. Ten companies are listed on the bourse.
DSE traded 200,778 shares worth Sh233.67 million in 188 deals last week compared with 186,753 shares worth Sh218.24 million transacted in 212 deals a week earlier.
Twiga traded 181,633 shares worth Sh207.04 million in 139 deals last week compared with 124,000 shares worth Sh141.79 million in 158 deals the previous week. The firm's share price rose to Sh1,140 last week from Sh1,120 the previous week. Its market capitalisation remained at Sh205.11 billion as it was the preceding week.
Simba transacted 7,675 shares worth Sh9.36 million in 20 deals last week, lower than 43,945 shares worth Sh53.61 million traded in 17 deals a week earlier.
The Swissport turnover was Sh0.01 million. The amount was realised from transacting 14 shares in two deals, less than Sh1.19 million which was realised from1,669 shares transacted in four deals the previous week.
TBL traded 8,831 shares worth Sh14.03 million in 17 deals last week compared with 8,243 shares worth Sh13.02 million in 11 deals a week earlier. TCC transacted 2,466 shares worth Sh3.35 million in six deals last week.
The firm transacted 5,236 shares worth Sh7.12 million in 16 deals previous week the previous week. Tatepa transacted 95 shares worth Sh0.05 million in two deals last week from 1,900 shares worth Sh0.97 million in two deals a week earlier.
TOL transacted 64 shares worth Sh0.02 million in two deals last week. The firm traded 1,760 shares valued at Sh0.53 million in four deals the preceding week. The TOL capitalisation remained at Sh9.6 billion.
Most companies' share prices and market capitalisations stagnated during the same period.
