[2007-09-21] Tanzania inflation eases to 7.8 pct y/y in August
Tanzania's annual inflation rate eased to 7.8 percent in August from 9.0 percent in July due to a drop in food prices, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Thursday.
Prices for food items like rice, sugar, meat and fresh milk were among those whose that fell.
Prices of non-food items including charcoal, diesel, petrol and mobile phones also eased, while those of rent, footwear and clothing rose, the NBS said.
Tanzania's National Consumer Price Index covers market prices of 207 items collected in 20 towns in mainland Tanzania.
