[2007-01-26]  Expansion plan for Tanzania Portland Cement Company production facilities
The total installed clinker production capacity in Tanzania is about 1.2 million tons per annum. While total clinker production in Tanzania for 2004 was 1.06 million tons with a consumption of 1.22 million tons, production in 2005 rose to 1.39 million tons and the estimates for 2006 are expected to outstrip the installed clinker capacity due to the strength of the construction industry in Tanzania.

Further investments in capacity are therefore necessary.

Present Production capacity of TPCC
Through investments and different upgrades of the production equipments we have of today an annual production capacity of approx. 670,000 tons of cement, produced in compliance with Tanzanian standards and international quality requirements.

With the development of the cement demand which is foreseen, TPCC plans to increase its capacity substantially. From mid 2006 till 2009 it expects to invest around USD 100 million in such expansion. With this new investment TPCC will strengthen its position as the leading cement company in Tanzania. It will also secure the Company’s ability to cover the further domestic growth for many years to come. The new production equipment will be of the latest technology, and by this represent a major environmental improvement.
