[2008-08-19]  DSE Trading Falls After Brief Upswing
The Dar es Salaam bourse plunged last week after previous week's resurgence as companies performed poorly in trading and other stocks remained dormant. All foreign companies that listed at the Dar bourse that include KA, JHL and EABL have been inactive for a long period, a weekly survey by The Citizen indicates.

The bourse registered a turnover of Sh125.13 million from 92,102 shares traded in 105 deals last week compared with Sh207.5 million from 141,158 shares transacted in 187 deals the previous week.


The market share index and market capitalisation dropped to 1076.71 and Sh3,346.35 billion respectively during the period.

Twiga accounted for 90 per cent of the stock exchange turnover last week, transacting 77,663 shares worth Sh112.53 million in 54 deals, down from 118,677 shares valued at Sh173.03 million traded in 100 deals a week earlier.

Swissport had a turnover of Sh1.95 million realised from 3,000 shares in 22 deals last week compared with Sh1.96 million from 3,023 shares traded in 31 deals the previous week.

TBL traded 3,762 shares of Sh6.77 million in 20 deals last week, lower than 11,004 shares worth Sh19.59 million transacted in 12 deals the preceding week.

The TCC market turnover fell to Sh0.49 million from 300 shares traded in one deal, from Sh4.14 million realised from 2,554 shares traded in nine deals a week earlier.

Simba posted a turnover of Sh0.95 million from 551 shares transacted in four deals last week compared with the previous week's turnover of Sh8.43 million from 4,900 shares transacted in 32 deals.

Nicol that listed a few weeks ago, continued to deteriorate at the market as its share price dropped to Sh350 a share down from the first trading result of Sh400.

Last week the company traded 300 shares worth Sh0.11 million in one deal. Its market capitalization declined to 24.21 billion last week from Sh26.29 billion before.

TOL transacted a total of 5,526 shares worth Sh1.82 million in two deals last week while the preceding week it was inactive.

Tatepa traded 1,000 shares valued at Sh0.51 million last week, after having been dormant the previous week .

Market capitalisations of all companies remained stagnant last week in the past fortnight as none of firms' share prices rose
