[2007-12-05] Dar Stock Exchange Lacklustre
Stocks attracted fewer buyers at the Dar es Salaam bourse last week.
As a result, share prices either stagnated or retrograded.
Tatepa, Swissport, TBL, TCC, TOL, Twiga, and Simba performed badly last week while KA, JHL and EABL were sleepy.
The bourse share index declined to 1021.75 last week from 1023.15 the previous week.
The Citizen weekly review shows that Twiga accounted for 87.84 per cent of the bourse's total turnover last week. It traded 105,363 shares worth Sh120.05 million in 99 deals during the same period.
The firm transacted 181,633 shares worth Sh207.04 million in 139 deals the previous week the review shows.
DSE traded 118,672 shares worth Sh136.66 million in 171 deals last week compared with 200,778 shares worth Sh233.87 million transacted in 188 deals the previous week.
TBL transacted 4,362 shares worth Sh6.93 million in 44 deals last week, lower than 8,831 shares worth Sh14.03 million traded in 17 deals a week earlier.
Swissport traded 1,153 shares worth Sh0.82 million in nine deals last week compared with 14 shares worth Sh0.01 million in two deals a week earlier.
Tatepa had a turnover of Sh0.01 million realised from 18 shares traded in two deals last week. The firm traded 95 shares valued at Sh0.05 million the previous week.
Simba transacted 6,139 shares worth Sh7.49 million in seven deals last week compared with 7,675 shares worth Sh9.36 million traded in 20 deals the previous week.
The TCC turnover was Sh1.12 million. It traded 837 shares in five deals last week as the firm transacted 2,466 shares worth Sh3.35 million in six deals the preceding week.
TOL's turnover declined to Sh0.24 million from 800 shares traded in five deals last week, higher than Sh0.02 million realised from 64 shares transacted in two deals a week earlier.
The bourse market capitalisation dropped to Sh3,151.98 billion from Sh3,156.28 billion during the same period.
That happened due to the decline in TBL's market capitalization to Sh465.99 billion last week from Sh471.89 million a week earlier. TCC's market capitalisation declined by Sh2 billion from Sh136 billion during the same period.
Twiga's market capitalisation increased to Sh208.71 billion from Sh205.11 billion.
Most companies' share prices and market capitalisations stagnated.
