[2008-03-04] KCB Counter Remains Buoyant KCB was the week's biggest mover, with 17 million shares dealt at between KShs26.50 and KShs29.00. Barclays Bank up 2.86 per cent to KShs72.00 moved 1.8 million shares.
The bourse closed the week on a high note; week on week, turnover rose to KShs2.2b from KShs2.1b posted the previous week, the number of shares traded stood at 56 million against 44 million the previous week.
The financials had 29 million shares traded and represented 51.83 per cent of the weeks traded volume. KenyaRe moved 3.2 million shares during the week and closed at KShs15.85.
The industrial and allied sector had 18 million shares, which accounted for 32.56 per cent of the week's traded volume.
Mumias Sugar was the most heavily traded counter in this sector with 7.4M shares changing hands at between KShs12.35 and KShs13.65. KenGen unchanged at KShs26.00 moved 4.2 million shares.
The commercial and services sector had 8 million shares traded, which accounted for 14.35 per cent of the week's traded volume. CMC Holdings saw 3.3 million shares changing hands at between KShs13.10 and KShs16.00.
Kenya Airways up 5.43 per cent to KShs48.50 moved 997,000 shares. AccessKenya actively moved 2.4 million shares at between KShs24.00 and KShs25.75.
The NSE 20 share index was up 148.06 points or 3.5 per cent during the week to stand at 5072.4.
Agricultural sector traded 212,000 shares, which accounted for 0.38 per cent of the week's traded volume. Sasini moved 141,000 shares at between KShs14.00 and KShs15.00. Rea-vipingo up 2.50 per cent to KShs20.50 moved 36,000 shares.
The NSE all share index was also up 2.42 points during the week to settle at 98.60.
Alternative investment market segment had 490,000 shares, which accounted for 0.87 per cent of the week's volume. Eaagads Ltd moved 369,000 shares during the week and closed at shs.231.25.
The bond market registered improved activity, with bonds totalling to KShs1.8b transacted compared to KShs974 million posted the previous week.
