[2007-10-10] African Eagle to open mine in Eastern Province AFRICAN Eagle Resources Plc intends to set up a copper mine in eastern province next year following the discovery of copper deposits.
Eastern province minister, Lameck Mangani, said the project called Sasaale had reached an advanced stage with the feasibility study revealing potential economical copper mining.
“The mining company is planning to set up a mine after everything is done next year,” he said.
In an interview from Chipata, Mr Mangani said the project was expected to create new jobs for the local people and bring foreign investment that would eventually earn exchange for the nation.
African Eagles Resources is a United Kingdom based mineral resources company that develops copper and gold deposits in east and central Africa.
The firm is listed on the Alternative Investment Market in London and has been planning another listing on the JSE.
Its principal advanced projects, which are being fast tracked towards production, are the Mkushi Copper mines in Zambia and the Miyabi gold project in Tanzania.
African Eagle signed a joint venture agreement with CGA milling for the
Mkushi copper Mines in which it holds 49 per cent shares.
The Zambian government recently granted exploration firm African Eagle Resources a prospecting licence to explore for copper at its Mokambo South
Its strategy is to acquire and explore promising targets and then to bring development partners with the resources and track records to take mines into production.
And Mr Mangani said that there was need to strengthen the gemstone sector in the province so that the public should benefit.
He said the area had active gemstone mining and that it was spread everywhere.
He urged small scale miners to utilise the availability of minerals and ensure that they are licensed as quickly as possible.
