[2008-08-08] Zambeef to buy Nanga Farms
ZAMBEFF Products Plc will start production of sugar once Zambia Competition Commission (ZCC) approves the acquisition of Nanga Farms.
Zambeef public relations manager, Justo Kopulande in an interview said there had been progress on the acquisition of Nanga Farms.
Mr Kopulande said Zambeef took the first step to have an extra ordinary general meeting of all Zambeef shareholders to seek their approval to go ahead to buy Nanga.
He said shareholders had approved the acquisition and the next step would be to seek statutory approval from the ZCC to allow the group go ahead with the purchase of Nanga Farms.
“There are other things happening before the acquisition can be finally done. There has been progress made in seeking to buy Nanga Farms,” he said.
Mr Kopulande said Nanga Farms, is a sugar plantation estate that had been supplying sugar to Zambeef.
“believe we continue doing the same job as Zambeef.
It would be nice for another player to come on the Zambian market to provide sugar,” he said.
Zambeef has this year also acquired Master Pork, which is now a Zambeef subsidiary company.
Mr Kopulande said Master Pork is the country’s largest pork processor with the largest piggery producing about 7,500 pigs per year.
“We do a lot of processing and the whole range of smoked products from our pork products,” he said.
Zambeef Products Plc is made of Zambeef, Zamchick, Zammilk, Zamleather, Zamflour, Zamloaf, Zamshu, Zamanita and now Master Pork.
Mr Kopulande also said Zamleather was doing very well with different types of shoes having been introduced on the local market.
“The brand we are calling “Little bwanas” which is school shoes has performed very well on the market.
“Parents attending the Agricultural and Commercial Show bought a lot of shoes for their children, an indication that this is what the market would like,” he said.
