[2008-07-24] PG Boss Elected ICAZ President PG Industries chief executive Mr Nyasha Zhou was elected the new president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe for a one-year term of office at the annual general meeting last week.
He replaces Deloitte chief executive Mr Tawanda Gumbo.
Speaking soon after his election Mr Zhou said he believed in the collective strength of chartered accountants through their professional institute.
He said he would further want to raise the institute's profile as the country's premier accounting body.
"We must lead in accounting innovation, research, leadership, governance and ethics," he said.
"The institution must also provide strong technical, advocacy and other support for its members in and out of practice as well as strengthen student support and training and make decisions in this regard for the future."
Mr Zhou has been an active member of ICAZ for years.
He has twice been a member of the institute's governing council, his most recent term extending over the last four years.
He is former chairman of the institute's public relations committee and has been a member of its education committee and public sector committee.
He trained as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and Touché.
He has been with PG Industries for many years and was financial director before becoming chief executive.
Mr Zhou helped develop the institute's Training Outside Public Practice programme and was the first TOPP student trainer.
Students who train under the TOPP programme do so under the supervision of a chartered accountant at a commercial or industrial organisation approved by ICAZ as an accredited training office.
