[2008-07-30] Sugar Supplies Set to Improve Star africa corporation said yesterday it is working with the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) to improve the transportation and supply of sugar from its Chiredzi plant to all parts of the country.
Chief executive Mr Pattison Sithole said a deal would be struck soon resulting in a number of sugar loads piled at the plant being delivered.
"We are facing transport challenges to ferry our sugar to most of our domestic markets," he said, adding, the current socio-economic environment that had pushed inflation to over two million had worsened the situation.
"We are thus engaging NRZ to see how best we can address the problem so that sugar supplies improve countrywide."
Mr Sithole said about 130 000 tonnes of sugar needed to be ferried each financial year but a cocktail of challenges were affecting operations.
He, however, said the export market had not been affected much because other means of transportation were being used
